A Busy Weekend

Friday night we had a dinner party for Toni's friend Gail and her husband Al from Florida.
Gail, Bobbie, Jackie & Toni all started kindergarten in Wurtsboro 50 years ago. Gail hasn't been back to Wurtsboro in many years so it was a special reunion

Here the ladies are holding their kindergarten photo

Saturday was Sullivan County's Fireman Parade in honor of the county's Bicentennial.
Along with Gail & Al we watched the parade, toured the village and met a lot of friends

Sunday was an antique plane and car show at the Wurtsboro Airport

Later we went to the Masten Lake House to relax with Kate & Kyle

Contract Signed

I just signed a new contract as a vendor with Ikaria Pharmaceutical Co. This is my third contract go around with my own company, but I was really nervous about getting the account this time. For years I had dealt with the Medical Affairs dept. but I was switched over to the Marketing Dept. with all new people.

Because of the economy and because I heard other vendors were vying for the account I was very apprehensive. What a relief to finally sign the contract with a small increase. I would hate to have to go out into the real world to make a living, Get dressed every day?
Quickly what we do is meeting logistics. A Pharma. rep wants to do a program to promote their drug. I arrange for a doctor to speak, do his travel arrangements and pay him after the program. I keep a database on all the programs and their costs. This way I can generate activity & cost reports to the big shots. I'm just busy enough, that I can still keep up with all my house husband duties.
The Security Dept. is also very happy we got the contract.

Woodstock 1969-2009

Last weekend was the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock concert. Just like the first concert I was there with Cathy Longo. Cathy has morphed from girlfriend into family. Toni & I love her like a sister.
We had a great time at the concert at Bethelwoods. This beautiful venue is on the site of the original 1969 Woodstock festival
The show started at 5:00PM and ended at 1:15AM. A little late for this old hippie. We saw a lot of friends we knew, and a few people we probably don't want to know. It was a great party time with lots of bands from the original concert. We call it Geezer Rock. Our joke was we went drugged up to the concert. I had my Preparation H and Toni downed some Metamucil. We felt good!
We can't wait for the 50th anniversary. They'll probably paint the wheel chair ramps in psychedelic colors.

Just back from Woodstock in 1969.
Jack, Cathy Longo, Carol Weissman and Frank DeLizza

Hippie Chicks

There were 17,000 people at the concert,a sold out show. Nothing to compare to the 500,000 people in 1969.
We had tenth row, center seats, under the pavilion. They treat old Woodstockers well.

We have seen our future.
Rock on!

Country Joe MacDonald emceed the show. He read off the names of the Sullivan County men who died in Vietnam. The first name was our friend, 19 year old Jerry Evans from Wurtsboro

Jefferson Starship with Paul Kanter minus Grace Slick

Leslie West of Mountain got married on stage in between songs. Very cool.

Tribute to Pat Moore

Last weekend the Village of Wurtsboro dedicated a picnic grove to the memory of Pat Moore who died this year. Pat served as the village mayor and town clerk. She was also involved in every village and church organization. Pat also wrote the Wurtsboro column for a local newspaper. Everyone loved her. Her family and her husband Tom's lived in Wurtsboro for generations. Tom and my Dad were childhood friends.

Pat's Family

The picnic grove is at the beginning of the hiking trail that runs along the old D&H canal.
At the dedication Pat's family cut the ribbon and Tommy Mullins played Irish songs on the bagpipes. The American Legion were present with an honor guard. After the ceremony we had cookies, snacks and cold drinks in the park. Most of Pat's village neighbors and friends were there. She would have loved it

A Close Call

Last week Toni and I were asleep when we heard this loud crash. I went out with the flashlight to see if another tree had fallen in the yard, but everything seemed to be okay. Within a half hour traffic was backed up in front of our house from the traffic light and a helicopter was flying over the neighborhood.

A truck on Rt 17 lost it's cargo of three, six ton rolls of aluminum. One roll ran down the embankment, took out thirty trees and crashed into our neighbor's trailer. It punched through the trailer and knocked the trailer off it's foundation. Luckily the owner was in another room and he wasn't hurt. And they say living in the country isn't exciting.
