When someone dies in Wurtsboro the funeral home turns on their outside lights. So before the obituary is printed in the newspaper everyone knows someone in town has died. We call them the dead lights
The lights were on last week for my brother-in law Mike Dolan who passed away after battling brain & lung cancer for two years. Mike was just a great guy. The kind of man who was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially for Toni & me. Mike moved our heavy furniture, laid down our flooring in the living room and countless other assists. He was always there when he was needed. He was honest, funny, and smart and we loved him.
Mike and I were two Irish, Catholic boys from Jersey who married the Newkirk girls. We shared a common adversary. He always had good advise for me. He treated me like the brother I never had and I will always miss him.
Mike had a beautiful Mass and Military funeral. It poured rain during the service, which only seemed fitting
